Traveller's Tales does it again with LEGO® Jurassic World as the
newest addition to the popular LEGO® game Franchise. Want to play as a
ferocious velociraptor or a T-Rex? How about charging and trampling
everything in your way a triceratops living tank? If you have ever
wanted to hunt play as or hunt dinosaurs, or even search a huge pile of
dinosaur dung for an important item, this game may be perfect for you.
This
title remains true to the Jurassic movie franchise as does the other
LEGO® games released. LEGO® Jurassic World manages to include quirky
LEGO® brand humor into the game and does a nice job of making the game
friendly to younger players. It is even somewhat educational as the ever
cute Mr. DNA appears during load times to enlighten us with real life
dinosaur facts.
LEGO® Jurassic World incorporates the first three
Jurassic movies along with the newest Jurassic World movie into this
title. Everyone loves to relive the T-Rex shaking the ground as the huge
beasts draws terrifyingly closer. The rumble feature on the remote
works perfectly in this scene. What is different about this title is you
can choose which movie you want to play out by utilizing a monorail
system in the game. This means you do not have to finish the sequences
in chronological order and may jump right to the latest movie if you so
desire. That is different from previous LEGO® Games like the Star Wars
Series.
Much of LEGO® Jurassic World is still repetitive as you
will spend a lot of your time breaking apart the scenery in order to
build new items you need. The break it down and build it back up action
is featured in all LEGO® games and was expected. Why not? This is
supposed to be a LEGO® adventure anyway. Repetition is not a fan
favorite and can become boring so Traveller's Tales opted to reduce this
action greatly for LEGO® Jurassic World. Older players may welcome this
change but young children who don't really get into the more
sophisticated elements of a game and just want to fight and have fun may
suffer from a shorter attention span when playing this game.
LEGO®
games aren't well-known for superior graphics but LEGO® Jurassic World
contains the best graphics to date for Lego titles. The animation is
very well done and the cut scenes are incredibly enjoyable.
As
with other LEGO® games the controls are still a little clunky. Camera
angles are often frustration as the camera will not move accordingly.
This will make precise jumps more difficult even if it should have been
easy. Another annoyance which exists is minor bugs involving your
companions falling or not keeping up. These rare occurrences mostly can
be fixed by logging out and back in again.
The missions are more
guided than previous titles. The large open world which exists in other
LEGO® games like The Hobbit has been greatly reduced for LEGO® Jurassic
World. This more linear format provides a faster pace for this game.
Exploration is not much missed as mission also will require less travel
time running back and forth from point A to point B.
Another
traditional winner for LEGO® games is the co-op play. This always makes
for a great time as a couch based event. This is a great way to get some
valuable bonding time with a young child. You will be able to share the
scares as well as the laughs. Tell me if you and your child won't
giggle after a terrifying velociraptor leaves behind a steam smiley face
after breathing on the window?
LEGO® Jurassic World is enjoyable and well done. If you like the movies you will enjoy this game.
